The Design Process
With well over 200 sites created we have really refined the design process to produce not only the best results possible but also ensure the quickest delivery.
1) Discovery
The first and most important step in the design process is the discovery and discussion stage. At this time you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire about your website and partake in some discussion about the goals you want to accomplish with your website. This will set the direction for the entire project.
Don't worry that you won't be able to answer all of the questions or that you may not understand some facets of the project. It is common to not have all the answers which is why this step is called the discovery step.
2) Required Content
Any content that is required for your website (vendor logos, specific fonts, etc...) should be given before the design will be started. This ensures that said content will properly fit into the website instead of appearing to be shoehorned in at the last minute. If possible it is best to have any required content for your website ready before the project is even started. This will help with the discovery phase as well.
3) Wireframing
Wireframing is the process of getting a general layout for the site down on paper. This is done using a tool called balsamiq. The wireframe is not to be taken as an exact representation of what your website will look like; rather, it is meant to help set the proper course for the actual design process.
4) Initial Mockup
Once the wireframe has been accepted the initial mockup will be created. This will be an image representation of what the website will actually look like. This will be presented to you on a platform known as ConceptShare. The ConceptShare service is a tool that allows the simple exchange of ideas by being able to add notes, draw, and comment on different web assets (images, pages, text, etc...).
5) Image Mockup Revisions
Any major changes that need to be done to the site should be taken care of while the site is still in image form and has not yet been coded. Minor changes such as the padding of elements or size of text will be saved until a later date. While the revision count will vary depending on the project the standard number is three. To find out more about what counts as a revision please see the FAQ.
6) Coding of the website.
Once final approval has been given on the image based mockup of the website it will then be coded to work in IE8 and FireFox. At this time any remaining minor revisions will be taken care of. The site will validate as XHTML 1.0 Strict valid at this time and you will be able to preview it in your browser as well as make any notes to the live page on ConceptShare.
7) Coding of subpages.
Once the homepage of the website has been finished any remaining subpages will then be coded. In addition the the subpages requested every design comes with a blank subpage as well. This is intended to be used as a starting point for any additional subpages that you wish to create.
8) Final Approval & Cleanup
At this stage the website is complete. Once it has final approval from you the client it will then be made to work with any remaining browsers and all code will be cleaned up. Once final payment has been received the site will be packaged in a zip file.
